Altar Server

WELCOME   St. Mary Altar Servers....
.
How can you serve your parish community for most of your time in school? By assisting the Priest pray the Holy Liturgy on the altar!
.
Pope Francis was quoted recently speaking to 9000 altar servers, “Serving at the altar, the pope told the young people, is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus, which in turn "enables you to open yourselves to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them. The closer you are to the altar," he told them, "the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received.”
.
.
What does it mean to be an Altar Server?  It means you are actively assisting the Priest and Deacons on the altar and directly supporting the our Parish’s sacrifice of the Holy Mass.
.
What do we need?  We need young people who are responsible, on-time, respectfully dressed, and who have a heart of service.

4 Reasons to Serve:

 1) Best Seat in the House - Hey, if you are wanting to get the best seat in house, altar serving is for you.  Ever get bored at church?  That will not happen anymore.  Need a good reason to get away from your annoying brother or sister?  This is it.

2) Friends - They make lots of friends with other boys and girls outside their normal peer group,  Fourth graders become friends with high school kids.  We are called to live in community and I can’t think of a more positive bunch than our altar servers.

3) Respect and understanding of the Mass - You will experience the mass in a new and special way.  You will likely have an almost immediate shift in your approach.  Your focus and understanding will change resulting in joy and mastery of the mass.

4) An opportunity for leadership - You will begin knowing nothing and will soon find yourself helping and mentoring others as you grow in your knowledge.
