Weekly Bulletin Guidelines

Saint Mary Parish Bulletin
GUIDELINES

The purpose of our weekly bulletin is to provide parishioners pertinent and timely announcements and updates, especially those pertaining to parish events, volunteer opportunities, and needs of the parish.  In addition, the bulletin will include items submitted by the Office of the Bishop and the various Diocesan Ministries.

To ensure that each parishioner reads the bulletin weekly in its entirety the editor will keep the bulletin succinct, fresh, and relevant.  The items in the bulletin should provide a brief description of an event/opportunity/need and should include a means of obtaining additional information (e.g., phone number, website, QR code, etc).

Submissions for the standard 8-page bulletin (40 weeks per year) must:

  • Be submitted to bulletin@stmarysoakridge.org,
  • Be received by the editor no later than 11:00 pm on Sunday Nights (unless otherwise posted),
  • Provide a brief description of the even/opportunity/need along with a point of contact and/or a source of additional information, and
  • Not exceed ½ page when formatted by the editor.

Submissions for the periodic 12-page bulletin (12 weeks per year) are the same with the exception that a full page may be submitted for inclusion if space allows.  Arrangements for inclusion of a full-page submission must be discussed with the editor at least 2 weeks prior to the publication of a 12-page bulletin.

Please note that all submissions are subject to review by the Pastor and modification for content and size by the editor.  Every effort will be made to allow review by the original author when modification occurs.

The editor should avoid the kind of repetition of articles and other postings that reduces readership.  Generally, a submission may run for one to two weeks (maximum). Exceptions may be made with the approval of the editor depending on content, relevance, and available space.

The insertion of flyers into the published bulletin is not allowed without the permission of the Pastor.  If the Pastor approves a flyer for insertion in the published bulletin, the expense associated with the preparation of the flyer and the resources necessary for inserting the flyers into the bulletin will be the responsibility of the group or ministry requesting permission.

Paid advertising is under the exclusive control of the publisher.
